William Donald Hastings
Funeral services for William Donald Hastings, 87, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Hastings passed away at 9:15 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at NHC Healthcare.
He was born April 3, 1931, at Myron, Arkansas, to William Garland and Susie Leah Harris Hastings. Don graduated from Violet Hill High School in 1949. In 1951 he was married at Melbourne, Arkansas, to Myrlene Jackson. Mr. Hastings was a veteran, having served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal with the Military police. After leaving the military, Don and Myrlene settled in Independence, Missouri. Don worked forty-five years for Sears as an electrician. After retirement the couple moved to West Plains, Missouri. Don picked up the game of golf and loved playing with his wife and friends in golf leagues. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and loved his hunting dogs. Mr. Hastings was a member of the First Baptist Church, West Plains and thoroughly enjoyed his Emmaus Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Myrlene Hastings; two daughters, Donna Wainright and husband, Dennis and Karen Sholes; four grandchildren, Daniel Wainright and wife, Kristyn, Brent Sholes and wife, Niki, Katie Galanaugh and husband, Ryan and Grant Sholes and wife, Jennifer; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
His parents, one sister, Mary Anniece Stevens and one brother, Wilbur Lee Hastings, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at Langston Street Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery, near Melbourne, Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Research & Prevention Association and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Myrlene and Each of the very special loved Family, I just read of Jack’s passing and I wanted to extend my sincerest sympathies to each of you, as you mourn the loss of such a very special man, to each of you.. Condolences to Myrlene, Donna and Karen. We enjoyed all the golf outings and times of worship at church. Don was a super gentleman and will be missed. He is in great hands.
