She was born November 14, 1930, at Labadie, Missouri, to Raymond A. Holthaus and Penny L. Jett Waggoner. On August 9, 1947, she was married at Hermann, Missouri, to Charlie Herbert Holland, who preceded her in death on August 5, 2013. The couple moved to Salem, Missouri and started a family; two children later, they moved to Mountain Grove to co-own a grocery store. Five years later they moved back to Salem, where Mary worked at International Shoe Factory and Charlie at a grocery store as a meat cutter. Charlie changed jobs and moved the family to Rolla until a few years later when they moved to West Plains. Mary owned a dress shop, “Mode O’Day”, which she loved; after selling the shop, she and Charlie co-owned Stanley’s Thriftway, later known as Holland’s Thriftway after they bought out the other co-owners. Mary ran the registers and took care of all of the book-work. After 18 years they retired to enjoy their family.
She is survived by three children, Charlie R. Holland, Debra Isaacson and husband, Michael and Brian Holland; seven grandchildren, Trina Smallwood and husband, Scott, John Lovins and wife, Gretchen, Nikki Schwab and husband, Mike, Julie Day and husband, Jeremy, Shelby Holland and fiance’ Justin, Ethan Hale and significant other, Sadie and Emily Morris; ten great-grandchildren, Jenna Lovins and significant other, Adam, Kolton Smallwood, Andrew Schwab, Brady Schwab, Kaylee Schwab, Gabbi Day, Nolan Day, Aubrey Lovins, Caroline G. Lovins and Caroline R. Hale; and many nieces and nephews.
