Funeral services for Avis Armenna Hixon Roberts, 78, Pottersville, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Gospel Hill Church of Christ, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roberts died at 8:17 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2013, at West Vue Nursing Center.
She was born June 28, 1934, at Cureall, Missouri, to Elza Caleb and Martha Ellen Martin Hixon. She led a beautiful life. Avis often spoke of her happy childhood, raised in a loving family with her sisters and brother. At the young age of 16, she met the love of her life, Giles Franklin Roberts. They were married February 3, 1951, at Salem, Arkansas. For the next 56 years, their love and devotion would serve as an inspiration to all who were blessed to know them. At the mention of her family, Avis’s face would light up. She was a loving mother to four children, Bonnie Sue, Wanda Lou, Debra Ann and Mark Douglas. Making a home was her life’s ambition. Many are fortunate to have memories of the home she created—a place filled with great food, fun, love and laughter. Avis was an incredible person. Fun. Sweet. Kind. Full of light. Spunky. Ornery. Caring. Funny. She always saw the best in people and had a faith that was genuine and admirable. She diligently served as a member of Gospel Hill Church of Christ for many years. She touched the lives of all she knew. Her life story includes tales of heated bump games, float trips with friends and kite-flying adventures with her grandkids. Her home was always open to all and you could always count on a good meal. She loved her husband, family and friends. Her service to others was a living expression of her faith.
She is survived by four children, Bonnie Mahan, husband, Darrell, Pottersville, Missouri, Wanda VonAllmen, husband, Gary, Pottersville, Missouri, Debbie Roberts, Fayetteville, Arkansas and Mark Roberts, wife, Sheila, Pottersville, Missouri; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma House, West Plains, Missouri, Juanita Walker, Pottersville, Missouri and Ruby Hobbs, West Plains, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, John Roberts, wife, June, Pottersville, Missouri and Dennis Roberts, wife, Sue, West Plains, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband and her brother, Robert Hixon, precede her in death.
Avis’s life is a great example of a life well-lived. She was a true picture of love, and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Gospel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Hill Cemetery, and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
