William Joseph Bergman
A memorial service for William Joseph Bergman, 72, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at First Christian Church, 422 W. Main St., West Plains, MO 65775.
Mr. Bergman passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Ozarks Medical Center.
He was born September 18, 1951, at Litchfield, Illinois, to Joseph Bergman and Mary Lou Stogsdill Bergman. On November 1, 2000, he was married at Hillsboro, Illinois, to Joyce Hooper. Bill had an associate’s degree in technology and maintained a career as a navigator for Mobile Oil Search in Houston, Texas, where he traveled all over the world. Also known as PaPa Bill, he loved telling stories about his adventures to his two grandsons. He loved his family very much.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Bergman, West Plains; one daughter, Leslie Hooper, West Plains; two grandchildren, Zeith and Zyler McKinney; his mother, Mary Lou Bergman, Hillsboro, Illinois; one brother, Jim Bergman and wife, Emma; two sisters, Luanne Stewart and husband, Greg and Jeanie Roth and husband, Doyle; and many nieces and nephews.
His father preceded him in death.

My condolences to the entire family of Bill. I fondly remember hanging out in the basement with his brother Jim.
I ran into him at Midway in Harvel a few years ago. The bar was full and I’m sorry to say that it had been decades since I’d last seen him. After we’d exchanged greetings, he looked at me and said, you don’t remember me do you. Once he’d asked I knew who I was talking to. I replied, how could I forget the guy that introduced me to Ian Anderson and his buddies. He smiled, shook his head and said, good memory, how ya doing Larry. I don’t think anyone in the bar knew who we were talking about.
