Josephine Louise Elliott Slaughter
Josephine Louise Elliott Slaughter, 88, of Willow Care Nursing Home in Willow Springs, MO, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013, following a short illness. A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at the Willow Care Home, Willow Springs, Missouri.
She was born August 4, 1925 to Beauford Fortunetta Pizzella and William Franklin Elliott at Huntington, West Virginia. Josephine met her future husband, William Whitson Slaughter, while studying at the Ringling Art Institute in Sarasota, Florida. They married, moved to Tennessee and built a fishing and ski resort, after which they had a series of adventures from living on board ship to living in the Middle East and Africa.
Three children were born to this union, and family life was the utmost importance to Josephine. She was a loving, gifted and amazing woman who enriched the lives of all those who were fortunate to know her. Her bright spirit and unfailing optimism and perseverance were empowering to her family and friends. She truly led by example and lived life to its fullest.
She is survived by three children, Barbara Beau Flanagan and husband, Bernard, Mountain Grove, Missouri, Michele Louise Badger and husband, Jeffrey, Carbondale, Kansas and Stephen Elliott Slaughter and wife, Tracy, Las Vegas Nevada; four grandchildren Christopher Elliott and Lori Chovanec of Gardner, Kansas, Stephen Andrew Chovanec, Roanoke, Virginia and Logan William Slaughter, Las Vegas, Nevada; two great-grandchildren Gavyn Chovanec and Katherine Chovanec, Gardner, Kansas; and special extended family members Jim and Patricia Hamilton, Columbia, South Carolina.
Her parents, husband and one brother, Bigelow Moseley of the State of West Virginia, precede her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, ASPCA or any animal shelter, and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

She was one of the strongest women I have ever known! I rejoice in her release to the next horizon and beyond, and I thank God for giving her to us!!!!

I have truly been blessed to have had the friendship of Bill and Toni for eight years of my life.
We used to have the most wonderful parties at their house in Columbia SC. What I learned from those two wonderful people I will carry for the rest of my life. May God bless Bill and Toni!
