John Wayland Gunter
Funeral services for John Wayland Gunter, 84, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Gunter passed away at 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at his home, with his wife, Velda, by his side.
He was born September 4, 1933, at Pottersville, Missouri, to John Israel Gunter and Beatrice Collins Gunter. Wayland attended school at Bakersfield and West Plains High School. Mr. Gunter was a veteran, having served with the United States Army from 1951 to 1954, received an honorable discharge with National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Parachutist Badge. On June 14, 2009, he was married at Pottersville, Missouri, to Velda Jo Lilley. Wayland worked as a farmer, dairy farmer, and logger. He loved to fish, hunt and be outdoors with his metal detector.
He is survived by his wife, Velda Jo Gunter; four children, Barbara Jean Markovich, Scott Gunter, Susan Marie Harris and Jessica Lynn Gunter, all of Howell County, Missouri; two step-daughters; his grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Gunter, Success, Missouri and David Gunter and wife, Daisy, West Plains, Missouri; two sisters, Sylvia Peterman, Eufauka, Oklahoma and Zella Mae Rhoades, West Plains, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, two brothers, Robert Gunter and Wayne Gunter and his wife Mildred, and Teresa P. Williams, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Parsons Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Parsons Cemetery and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. I didn’t hear of his passing until Monday night. I have good memories of visiting Wayland and his family when I was young. Dad and Wayland seemed to always enjoy each other’s company so much. He always seemed to give us a puppy when we visited.
