Larry Oren McMurtrey
Funeral services for Larry Oren McMurtrey, 80, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. McMurtrey passed away at 9:51 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2024, at his home.
He was born April 15, 1944, in Douglas County, Missouri, to Lawrence Oren McMurtrey and Reca Collins McMurtrey. On May 25, 1965, he was married at Pomona, Missouri, to Marcella Brower, who preceded him in death on July 13, 2019. Larry graduated from West Plains High School with the Class of 1962 and worked for West Plains Bridge for thirty-two years, having retired in 2003. He was a 32nd degree Mason. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gun shows, arrowhead hunting and watching WWI, WWII, Vietnam and Korean war documentaries. Mr. McMurtrey was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and formerly Second Baptist (Providence) Church.
He is survived by three children, Lori Thompson and husband, Leland, Lesa Garner and husband, Roger and Michelle Bales and husband, Eric; nine grandchildren, Tiffany McKee, Terry Saathof, Tony Saathoff, Teresa Saathoff, Lucinda Dewitt and husband, Trey, Taylor Garner and wife, Dawn, Jenna Wright and husband, Calvin, Jessica Bales and James Bales; several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dea Bailey; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, one sister, Donna Manning, one niece, Rita Bailey and two brothers-in-law, Booth Bailey and Ron Manning, preceded him in death.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus, especially Lisa, Tiffany, Karen and Roberta.
Visitation services will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund or Gideon Bible Society and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, MO 65775.

Lori & Lisa sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. Your dad and my dad worked many constructions sites together, and were friends for many years. Hold close to your heart all the special memories you all shared together.
