Graveside services for Marcella June Thornton, 95, Belton, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2022 at Fowler Cemetery, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thornton passed away at 9:48 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2022, at her home.
She was born November 15, 1926, at Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to George Everett Hardcastle and Nell Long Hardcastle. On July 2, 1949, she was married at Salem, Arkansas, to Cecil Leroy Thornton, who preceded her in death on August 13, 2010. Before her retirement, Marcella was the bookkeeper for her and her husband’s sawmill business (Thornton Sawmill) after her time working for Pratt and Whitney in Kansas City, Boeing in Wichita, and Eaton (later known as Invensys) in West Plains. She was a kind and loving mother.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Thornton, Belton, Missouri and Kay Thornton, Prairie Village, Kansas.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to West Plains Regional Animal Shelter and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, MO 65775.

I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. I live across from their old place on Hwy 14, in West Plains. Your Dad would come and blade my drive for me when it snowed and you Mom was always looking out for my pets. Thoughts and prayers,

Marcella was an intelligent, kind, gentle lady. She passed on to her daughters her appreciation & kindness toward animals, especially for cats. Kay & Janet I am thinking of you & sending love & hugs. I am sorry I will not be able to attend the service but I will be thinking of you. ?
