Mrs. Newberry passed away at 2:06 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at West Vue Nursing Center.
She was born June 25, 1923, at Sedalia, Missouri, to Henry Richardson and Della Mitchell Richardson. Mrs. Newberry was married to Benjamin Morrison in 1945 and had two children, Rick Morrison and Cheryl Counts. On December 2, 1968, she was married at Sedalia, Missouri, to Ed Newberry, who preceded her in death on January 19, 1984; together they adopted a son, James Newberry. Before her retirement she had worked as a nursing aid in schools and hospitals, was a cook for West Plains Head Start and operated a Daycare in her home for many years. Ruby loved children, playing games, cards, music, dancing and was an avid joke teller. She lived her life smiling. She is now dancing with the angels and probably telling them a joke or two.
She is survived by two children, Rick Morrison and wife, Linda, Parker, Texas and James Newberry and wife, Marla, Colorado Springs, Colorado; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Glenda Franke, Kansas City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, one daughter, Cheryl Counts and one brother, Donald Richardson, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Newberry will lie in state from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to West Plains Meals on Wheels or the West Plains Senior Center, and may be left at or mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, MO 65775.

My condolences to James and all those who knew and loved Ruby. I was in head start meeting her for the first time. Many, many years later she, Ed, and Jimmy (as I know him) moved across the street from us. Her laughter is one you could hear everywhere and know it was Ruby. She was a shaker and a dancer. Lived her life to the fullest. I had lost contact with her after marrying and moving off. I know she must have kept the nurses in stitches till the end. R.I.P. Ruby and I know there will be lots of dancing for you in heaven.

Ruby babysat my daughter when she was 2. Almost every day that I went to pick her up Ruby would have boxes from the home shopping channels. She was addicted to them. Ruby was a wonderful lady. Sorry for your loss

While I did not know Ruby directly, her son Rick is one of the finest people I have ever meet. She must have been an amazing mother to have raised such a wonderful and loving family. I wish you all peace and offer my heartfelt sympathy for your loss.

Jim, I am so sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. Daniel and Brian( but especially Daniel) thought the world of Ruby. She was his mother figure while i worked. Ed loved Daniel too. Both my boys thought if you like a big brother. Sorry we have lost touch over the years. I hope you and your family are richly blessed and comforted by God. Bless you all.
