Sibyl JoDean Wright
Funeral services for Sibyl JoDean Wright, 88, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wright passed away at 4:57 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2019 at West Vue Nursing Center.
She was born March 10, 1931, at Mammoth Spring, Arkansas to Delbert Roe Pulley and Jessie Beulah Ferguson Pulley. On January 27, 1951, she was married at Jonesboro, Arkansas to Odtis Wright and to this union one son, Jason, was born. After attending college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, she worked at McClure Cheese Company (later West Plains Cheese Company) while also helping run the family farm raising registered angus cattle. Later, when most people are thinking about retirement, Sibyl started a second career working at Wal-Mart as a people greeter, a job she thoroughly enjoyed for 20 years. She has been a member of the Church of Christ for over 60 years and attended the Curry Street Church of Christ in which she was very active until her health no longer allowed. Some of her favorite memories involved the lights of her life, her grandsons. When they were toddlers, it was three of them singing gospel songs in the car on the way to church. Or perhaps later, as they got older, helping her set out flowers, or later still going to their high school stage productions and watching them perform. She was always willing to talk about and encourage her grandsons. Sibyl will be remembered for her love of life, strength, graciousness, selflessness and devotion to family and friends. She had a special ability to make everyone feel safe and comfortable in her presence and was able to make friends with anyone. Everyone who knew Sibyl will miss her bright and shining face, warm and friendly smile and loving and caring nature.
She is survived by one son, Jason and wife, Janelle, West Plains; two grandsons, Jay Wright and Jackson Wright, both of West Plains; three sisters, Maxine Winters, Ozark, Missouri, Colleen Hutchinson and husband, Steve, Thayer, Missouri and Daphene Pendarvis, West Plains; and two nieces, Tammy Speake, Springfield, Missouri and Monica Penrose and husband, Brett, Warrensburg, Missouri.
Her parents, husband, two brothers-in-law, Paul Bowers and Joey Pendarvis, one niece, Nerissa Bowers and one great-niece, Claire Speake, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Paragould Children’s Home and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
